The Anthony F. Cordeiro Charitable Foundation has awarded $15,000 in grants to four nonprofit organizations serving communities across southeastern Massachusetts. The grants were distributed as part of the foundation’s first funding round of 2026 and support a wide range of programs — from an inclusive playground for children of all abilities to veterinary care for animals awaiting adoption.
Since its founding in 2018, the organization has distributed more than $300,000 to local nonprofits. The foundation’s mission centers on strengthening communities in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island by supporting health and mental health services, food access, and shelter programs.
Grants are made possible through individual donations and the proceeds from the foundation’s annual fundraising events, including the 21st Annual Golf Invitational held August 18 at Lake of Isles in North Stonington, Connecticut.

$15,000 Awarded — 2026 Round One
Four organizations across southeastern Massachusetts
Funding for Mae’s Playground, an initiative to create an inclusive play space for children of all abilities in Fall River. The space will feature accessible playground equipment, sensory-friendly areas, spaces for families and caregivers, and opportunities for social interaction and learning.
Supporting 10 to 20 children in Fall River to participate in sports, arts, and enrichment programs during the fall and winter — programs designed to help children build skills, friendships, and confidence.
Offsetting the cost of spay and neuter procedures and veterinary services, helping prepare more animals for adoption while allowing the shelter to devote additional resources to emergency care and rehabilitation.
Providing backpacks and school supplies for approximately 75 young people involved in the organization’s residential, group living, and community-based programs — supporting youth who have experienced trauma, abuse, neglect, family instability, and poverty.
“We are lucky to live and work in a community supported by so many incredible organizations. Whether it’s helping children and families, expanding access to accessible equipment, or providing critical health services to our beloved animals, we’re proud to support nonprofits creating a lasting impact.”— Melanie Cordeiro, Executive Director, AFC Charitable Foundation
