The grants support organizations focused on improving the lives of people and animals in Southeastern Massachusetts. Since its inception in 2018, the foundation has awarded more than $290,000 to dozens of organizations.

The latest round of grants was announced at the AFC 2026 Gala on Jan. 31, 2026, at the Venus de Milo in Swansea.

The foundation provides funding to nonprofit organizations serving communities in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Its mission is to support families and children by increasing access to vital resources, including health and mental health services, food and shelter. Awards are granted twice per year to area nonprofits that share this mission.

The five grantees and their awards are:

Angels Anonymous (Fall River): $5,000 will provide perishable and non-perishable food to supply its food pantry, which serves more than 300 families each month.

Dignity Matters (Westborough): $3,500 will fund the purchase of 42,000 menstrual pads, providing 146 girls and women with a full year of menstrual care.

Firehouse Dogs (Fall River): $2,500 will help cover tuition, essential training equipment and vehicle upgrades for Sophie, the Fall River Fire Department’s comfort dog, to become a certified search and rescue K-9.

Animal Rescue League of Fall River: $2,500 will replace outdated cat cages with modern, multi-level cat condominiums as part of the Purrfect Spaces Project.

Katie Brown Education Program (Fall River): $2,000 will fund relationship violence prevention programming for local LGBTQIA+ and gender-nonconforming youth, groups that are disproportionately affected by intimate partner violence.

“Our grantees do extraordinary work every day to improve the lives of people and animals across our communities,” said Melanie Cordeiro, executive director of the Anthony F. Cordeiro Foundation, according to the announcement. “We are proud to stand behind these five organizations and support the vital work they do. Congratulations to our Second-Round of 2025 grantees.”

Grants are funded by individual donations and proceeds from the foundation’s annual winter gala and golf tournament. The 21st annual Anthony F. Cordeiro Charitable Golf Tournament will be held at Lake of Isles at the Foxwoods Resort and Casino on Aug. 18, 2026.

“The impact our grantees have on communities around Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island is nothing short of remarkable,” said Anthony F. Cordeiro, founder of the foundation. “The need has never been greater, and we are deeply proud to support their work. Thank you as well to our donors, Founders’ Circle members, local business owners, friends, and neighbors, whose generosity enables us to address critical and emerging needs in our communities.”

The Cordeiro Foundation is currently accepting applications for the first round of funding for 2026. Nonprofit organizations in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island whose mission aligns with that of the foundation are invited to apply. Applications are due June 30, 2026.

The Anthony F. Cordeiro Charitable Foundation today announced that grants totaling $13,000 have been awarded to six local nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Since its inception in 2018, the Foundation has awarded more than $238,000 to local organizations.

The Anthony F. Cordeiro Charitable Foundation aims to strengthen communities by enhancing opportunities for health and mental health services, food, shelter, education, and animal welfare. Awards are granted twice per year to area nonprofits in alignment with this mission.

“Our grantees have created significant, positive change for many families, communities, individuals and organizations across Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island,” notes Anthony F. Cordeiro, Founder of the Charitable Foundation. “We are proud to recognize their accomplishments and would like to thank our donors, Founders’ Circle members, local business owners, friends, and neighbors for their support, which makes our work possible.”

Awards are funded by individual donations and proceeds from the Foundation’s annual golf tournament and winter gala. This year’s 19th Annual Golf Invitational will be held at Lake of Isles in North Stonington, Connecticut on August 20th. The sponsors of this sold-out event include Audi Fall River (Hole in One Sponsor), Barrett’s Alehouse (19th Hole Sponsor), David’s Fish Market (Steel Drum Sponsor), Bosse Brothers Flooring (Snack Sponsor), and The Navicon Group (Lunch and Cigar Sponsor), MB Electrical Contracting (Cart Sponsor) and Safe Roof Systems (Gift Sponsor).

The First Round of 2024 Grantees are:

Adult & Teen Challenge Southern New England Women’s Home (Taunton, Massachusetts) – $5,000 will waive the $750 induction fee for addiction recovery services for seven women from low-income areas or those experiencing homelessness. This fee includes the cost associated with processing applications, filling out medical forms, conducting an initial 12-panel drug test, and providing necessary materials such as printed curricula, toiletries, and educational supplies. By covering these initial expenses, financial barriers preventing these women from accessing critical healthcare services will be eliminated.

Fall River Deaconess Home (Fall River, Massachusetts) – $2,500 will provide ten families with $100 of groceries and fund six to eight activities for groups of twelve youth. These activities enrich the lives of trauma-impacted youth by exposing them to new opportunities, allowing them to normalize their experiences, and enhancing their engagement in mental and behavioral health treatment.

Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center (Warwick, Rhode Island) – $2,500 will help establish a pantry of non-perishable goods for families of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are facing food insecurity. 90% of children enrolled at the Center are on state insurance and many are below the poverty line. An easily-accessible, stocked food pantry for families in need will alleviate financial stress and ensure students are nourished and ready to learn every day.

YMCA Southcoast (New Bedford, Massachusetts) – $1,000 will purchase portable sunscreen dispensers, stands, and 1-liter bottles of 30 SPF sunscreen for the YMCA. The dispensers will be strategically placed in outdoor spaces so that free sunscreen is available to all who need it when participating in outdoor activities. Display boards accompanying the dispensers are coordinated with IMPACT Melanoma and will provide critical information on safe sun practices.

Pet Refuge (North Kingstown, Rhode Island) – $1,000 will provide necessary medical care and other necessities to the shelter’s 16 ‘Lifers’, cats that were deemed unadoptable for various reasons.

Sunny Paws Rescue (East Falmouth, Massachusetts) – $1,000 will help locals facing financial hardship afford necessary medical care for their beloved pets. This will decrease the number of rehomed pets and positively impact the health of owners by allowing them to remain with their animals.

“Congratulations to our First Round of 2024 grantees,” said Melanie Cordeiro, Executive Director of the Foundation. “The passion and commitment demonstrated by these six organizations are truly inspiring. We are proud to help contribute to their continued success by supporting critical projects that make a meaningful impact.”

Applications are currently open for the Foundation’s second round of funding for 2024. Nonprofit organizations in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island whose programs support The Cordeiro Foundation’s mission are invited to apply. Full guidelines and application materials can be downloaded here. Applications are due on or before December 31, 2024. Questions about grant applications or the annual golf tournament can be directed to Melanie Cordeiro at melcordeiro@cordeirocharitablefoundation.org

Cordeiro Charitable Foundation announced that grants totaling $29,500 were awarded to three area nonprofit organizations for activities that support the organization’s mission and address unmet needs arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Anthony F. Cordeiro Charitable Foundation serves communities within Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Its mission is to enrich the lives of families and children who are burdened by life’s challenges by providing access to vital resources including, but not limited to, health and mental health services, food and shelter. Funding is awarded twice annually to nonprofit organizations that provide vital services and programming.

Applications for the final cycle of the year are due on Dec. 31, 2020, and all applicants who applied for the first round of grant funding will also be considered in the December round as priority was given to organizations with demonstrated, urgent COVID-19 related needs.

The foundation’s grants are awarded through proceeds raised from its 15th annual golf tournament, which was held on Sept. 1 at Indian Pond Country Club in Kingston under safe and socially distant conditions.

“I want to personally thank the members of the Founders’ Circle, local business owners, our friends and neighbors who again stepped up in this time of uncertainty to ensure that we would raise the money to help individuals and families who need that support even more this year,” said Tony Cordeiro, founder of the nonprofit organization.

The first-round grantees are:

Child and Family Services (New Bedford): $25,000 will be used to support two programs: CFS’ Caring Network Program which helps children heal from the trauma of witnessing violence in their home, school, neighborhood and community; and the Adoption Journeys Program which provides support groups to both parents and adopted children, respite services to provide a brief break for families, family liaisons to share experiences and adoption competency training for professionals wanting to work with adoptive families.

United Neighbors of Fall River (Fall River): $2,000 will help assist the most vulnerable families with food and meals during the COVID-19 pandemic.

HopeHealth Hospice & Palliative Care (Providence): $2,500 for support of their community bereavement programs that serve family members who have lost a loved one to COVID-19 or have been impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.

“We appreciate our longstanding relationship with Child and Family Services and are pleased to once again support the incredible work they do to heal and strengthen the lives of children and families especially during these unprecedented and difficult times,” noted Melanie Cordeiro, executive director of the foundation. “Many area families that were struggling to make ends meet before the pandemic hit have experienced job loss, food insecurity and financial uncertainty which is why we prioritized our funding to help address some of those critical needs.”

The foundation is now accepting grant applications for its second round of funding for 2020. Applicants who submitted for the first round but did not receive funding due to the COVID-19 emerging priority, will be considered for this round of funding.

Applications from area nonprofit organizations in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island whose programs align with The Cordeiro Foundation’s mission are invited to apply. Full guidelines and application materials can be downloaded at cordeirocharitablefoundation.org. Applications are due on or before Dec. 31. Any pre-proposal questions can be directed to Melanie Cordeiro at melcordeiro@cordeirocharitablefoundation.org.

FALL RIVER — The Anthony F. Cordeiro Charitable Foundation recently announced that in its second grant cycle of 2020, grants totaling $37,850 were awarded to six area nonprofit organizations for a variety of activities that support the organization’s mission.

The Anthony F. Cordeiro Charitable Foundation serves communities within Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Its mission is to enrich the lives of families and children who are burdened by life’s challenges by providing access to vital resources including health and mental health services, food and shelter. Funding is awarded twice a year to nonprofit organizations that provide vital services and programming.

The second round of awards for 2020 announced are:
Southcoast Hospitals Group (New Bedford)
$2,500 was granted to support the Wellness Van that enables Southcoast Hospitals Group to provide more services to local residents. This includes maintaining COVID-19 testing in addition to offering flu, pneumonia and pediatric vaccination clinics, preventative screenings and health education.

Forever Paws (Fall River)
$1,000 was granted to this pet shelter to help two severely abused animals on the road to recovery and eventual adoption. The pets — a cat named Molly who lost her eye, and a black Labrador retriever named Giovanni Cannoli who suffers from heart-related issues — have since been adopted and are doing well.

Child and Family Services (New Bedford)
$25,000 raised from The Cordeiro Foundation’s annual golf tournament in September went to Child and Family Services continue its exceptional work healing and strengthening the lives of area families. Funds will be used to support CFS’ Adoption programs, which help find homes for the children who spend their days in the foster care system, as well as their Caring Network, providing free counseling to children traumatized by domestic and/or community violence.
Camp Ellie Mae (Swansea)

$3,000 was granted to support the organization’s overnight summer camp for young girls ages 3 to 18 to encourage leadership and life skills and to build their self-esteem. The girls will experience real outdoor camping, and the policy of no electronic devices ensures that they will focus on the group experience rather than the distractions and isolation often associated with social media.

Medicine Horse (Tiverton)
$1,500 was granted to help provide equine-assisted psychotherapy sessions to frontline COVID-19 healthcare workers that address issues including anxiety, depression and trauma. The treatment team consists of an equine specialist, a licensed mental health professional and several horses. As this type of therapy is not reimbursed by insurance, this grant will be used to help cover the cost of treatment so participants will not have to pay out-of-pocket for the service.

The Boston Home (Boston)
$4,850 was granted to purchase a Hausmann Electric Tilt Table and Folding Parallel Bars for its resident and outpatient clients. The mission of the Boston Home is to enable adults with advanced multiple sclerosis and other neurological disorders to live as independently as possible through exceptional clinical care, compassion and innovative programs. The Hausmann Electric Tilt Table enables participants to progress from wheelchair-level sitting to partial weight-bearing standing leveraging TBH’s overhead lift system as needed. The folding parallel bars provide the next step to the Electric Tilt Table, allowing participants to move from a seated to standing position and even the possibility of walking short distances.

“Due to the extraordinary circumstances of 2020, we focused last year’s first-round awards on immediate health and safety needs relating to the pandemic,” said Melanie Cordeiro, executive director of the Cordeiro Charitable Foundation. “Our second-round of grants was specifically targeted to address a myriad of mental and physical health and wellness issues that were identified as the year progressed that significantly impacted individuals, families, children and even animals.”

The foundation is now accepting grant applications for its first round of funding for 2021. The foundation accepts applications from area nonprofit organizations in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island whose programs align with its mission.
